Password Manager Checklist

Generated passwords are strongest when you do not have to memorize them. This checklist helps you store them safely.

Before you choose a password manager

Look for a tool you will actually use every day. Cross-device sync, autofill, secure sharing, recovery options, and two-factor authentication support matter more than a long feature list you ignore.

1. Protect the master password

Use a long passphrase you can remember. Do not reuse it anywhere else.

2. Turn on two-factor authentication

Protect the vault itself with an extra factor, especially if it syncs across devices.

3. Replace reused passwords

Start with email, banking, cloud, shopping, social, and work accounts.

4. Save recovery information

Understand account recovery before you need it. Store emergency codes safely.

5. Use generated passwords

Let the manager store long random passwords so each account can be unique.

6. Review shared access

Remove passwords from old devices and shared vaults when access is no longer needed.
